40 Years

Bertelsmann Stiftung

An anniversary is always the moment to look back and appreciate what has been achieved. At the same time, it is an opportunity for the Bertelsmann Stiftung to recognize that more remains to be done and, as a result, to begin focusing on the challenges that will affect our everyday lives in the future.

What do you wish the Bertelsmann Stiftung for the future?
Statements of our former employees

Since the Bertelsmann Stiftung was founded by Reinhard Mohn, our activities and focus areas have steadily developed.

Our Topics

Across all our areas of activity at the Bertelsmann Stiftung – education, democracy, society, health, culture and the economy – we see four megatrends serving as long-term, interdependent, global drivers giving rise to and imposing major shifts: globalization, digitization, demographic change and social inequality.

The Family Tradition

Ownership comes with responsibility. Together with his wife, Liz Mohn, Reinhard Mohn ensured that making a contribution to society became part of the company objectives. This responsibility is also carried forward by the children, Brigitte and Christoph Mohn.

The Foundation

The Bertelsmann Stiftung was founded in 1977 by Reinhard Mohn. The Bertelsmann Stiftung is a private operating foundation and pursues exclusively and directly non-profit purposes. We therefore only fund projects that we conceive and initiate ourselves and then support as they are being carried out.
